SS Mission of Mercy

Men of SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Otto Weidinger's Der Fuhrer's Regiment of the Das Reich Division leave Prague after evaquating 1000s of German civilians, female auxiliaries, and a full train load of German wounded. It is ironic that the last official action by a Waffen-SS unit in this sector of the Eastern Front was in fact a mercy mission which resulted in the saving of 1000s of civilians, non-combatants, and wounded personel, as opposed to the wholesale slaughter that accompanied most Waffen-SS operations. He and his men even skirmished with a group of fanatical Nazi's who demanded that they stay and set up a hopeless defence of Prague from the Advancing Soviet Armies. (scanned by HOS Bandit)
