Cpl. Hugo Brinkforth became the First Knights Cross winner from the Ranks of the Enlisted Man, when on May 27, 1940 near Abbeville France, he destroyed 11 British Tanks in the span of 20 minutes. He was personally awarded the Knights Cross by Adolph Hitler.
