A German column advancing eastward toward Russia pauses for a rest break.  We all know what the future would hold for them.

Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and General Fritz Bayerlein (in staff car) confer with German troops in captured US M3 half-track, North Africa.  Date imprecise - but can be narrowed to the period between end-August 1942 (when Bayerlein moved to North Africa) and March 1943 (when Rommel left).  German SdKfz 251 in line following the M3.

This is a photo of Luftwaffe Serviceman Bernt Engelman taken when he visited the Dunkirk Beaches just after the evacuation.  It cetainly made me take a double take the first time I saw it.
