Panzerbüchse with grenade cup

Bundesarchiv

As anti-tank rifles became of less value, the Germans added Schiessbechers to some of them. As I understand it, the Panzerbüchse had the advantage of being able to take a more powerful bullet, providing the grenade extra range. Can anybody confirm that? I am also wondering if this was a soldier's primary weapon (when fitted with the Schiessbecher, I mean) or if he also lugged a rifle around. I would think, just as with the 98k, the weapon could also fire "normal" rounds without removing the cup.
