Signing capitulation

Fieldmarshal Wilhelm Keitel signs the document of unconditional surrender of Germany in Berlin-Karlshorst on May 8th 1945. Keitel was known as an absolute admirer of Adolf Hitler who implicitly carried out any order of the 'Führer'. By fellow generals he was nicknamed 'Lakeitel' (from the german word 'Lakai', meaning lackey or minion). Wilhelm Keitel was condemned to death penalty at the Nuremburg trials, he asked for execution by shooting for "officers are not supposed to be hanged but shot". The request was denied, Keitel died on the gallows on October 16th 1946 in Nuremburg.
