Vehicles of the 24th Panzer Division advance on Stalingrad, Summer 1942. The Division was subsequently annihilated in the Soviet counteroffensive, later to be reformed incorporating members of the Division who had been evacuated as wounded or on leave at the time of closure of the Soviet trap. The Division's commander at Stalingrad - Generalleutnant Arno von Lenski - subsequently became a leading figure in the organisation of the armoured forces of the German Democratic Republic.
