German seaplanes at Sola airport outside Stavanger in Norway, April 9. 1940. Luftwaffe fallschirmjäger had been dropped over this strategic important airport earlier this day, and suffered three casualties. For fun, take a look at Sola airport at Google Earth and observe how the area has changed in 75 years. This photo shows us the northern part of the present day runway and the fjord which is part of the large lake Hafrsfjord.
