According the AWM this Luftwaffe’s Messerschmitt Bf 109E was shot down during a strafing attack to a British Eight Army convoy near Fuka, Egypt, on 1 January 1943. Pilot POW. Very probable, according my opinion, because no evidence of serious damages, the aircraft was hit by the ground fire of light weapons which damaged the engine bringing the stoppage. In effect, according the photo, the aircraft experienced an engine failure and consequent forced land with engine stopped (note the upper blade’s propeller intact while the other two was folded by the impact with the terrain) and wheels up.
