Western Desert, Egypt, 14 August 1942: the Messerschmitt Bf 109F "Yellow 5" of Luftwaffe’s 6/JG27 piloted by the Leutnant Gert Mix was captured by the Australian Forces when made a forced landing in the rear of the Australian lines near El Alamein. The photo depict the aircraft loaded on to a transport to be taken to RAF workshops for examination by experts. Victor Sierra

During the Campaign of Italy many German aircraft fallen into hands of Allied virtually intact as this Bf 109G (“Gelb 7”/“Yellow 7”) of JG27 “Pik As” abandoned on a Sicilian airfield, likely Comiso, after the conquest of the Sicily, Summer 1943. Another Bf 109, it too in good conditions, is in the background. For an American GI is the opportunity for a souvenir photo. Victor Sierra
