Wir fliegen gegen England (?)

Gefreiter Joseph Scherm's  earned his place in history for a reason no one will ever envy, he was the first German airman shot down (and sadly killed) by the RAF in WW2. His Me Bf109D-1 was shot down on September 27, 1939 by point-blank return fire from Aircraftman John Ernest Summers, the gunner on Battle K9271 of No. 103 Squadron. Summers was later awarded the DFM for this action.

Unlucky fame

A Me109, probably an Emil, being refueled on the Channel Islands, note the comandered British truck.  The markings seem to indicate this machine belonged to a Wing Commander, sadly, the unit markings are hidden by the truck.
