Recon unit

A Dornier Do 17P belonging to the 3. Staffel of Auf.Gr.22, the reconnaissance unit assigned to the 16. Armee is seen here in accompanied by a Me109. During the Drôle de Guerre, reconnaissance squadrons were very active, particularly those of the Luftwaffe which violated Belgian airspace without hesitation, showing great interest in the Ardennes sector. In April 1940 alone, the Belgians reported some 330 incursions by foreign aircraft of which nearly 300 were German and the remainder French or British.
