Heinkel He 112 B - hardest competitor to the Me (Bf) 109 for the standard fighter plane of the German Luftwaffe. The Me was cheaper and easier to produce, the He 112 was more stalwart and aerodynamically superior though.

Hauptmann (Captain) Paul-Heinrich &quot;Sarotti&quot; Dähne (1921-1945), KC on April 6, 1944 as squadron leader 12./Jagd-Geschwader 11. He achieved 99 aerial victories (different sources note between 3 and 20 against western opponents) on app. 600 missions. On April 24, 1945 Dähne died in a flying accident when he crashed with his Heinkel He 162 &quot;Volksjäger&quot; jet-powered fighter aircraft near Warnemünde/north Germany aged 23.
