Hauptmann (Captain) EGON ALBRECHT (optional Albrecht-Lemke according to some sources) was born on May 19, 1918 in Curitiba/Brasil. Knight's Cross awarded on March 1, 1943 as leader of 9. squadron/Zerstörer-Geschwader 76 (equipped with Bf 110 aircrafts) for 15 aerial victories and taking out another 11 aircrafts, 162 motorbikes, 254 motorized vehicles, 3 locomotives, 8 AA positions, 12 AT positions and 8 infantry positions as ground targets. Albrecht's unit was re-equipped with Bf 109 fighter planes and deployed in France after Operation Overlord was launched. On August 25, 1944 Albrecht was forced to interrupt a dogfight because of engine problems. While he attempted to reach his airfield he was attacked and shot down by US P-51 fighter planes above St. Claude near Creil in Northern France. Although he managed to bail out he was found dead later on. By the time of his death Hauptmann Egon Albrecht had shot down 25 enemy planes, 15 on the Eastern Front and 10 on the Western Front including 6 four-engined bombers. (Bild 146-2008-0021)
