After a hard fight the French troops in the Lille pocket finally surrendered on the 1st of June 1940. In this photo, a column of French POWs marches past the dead crew of this anti-tank guns who gave their all in a desperate last stand for France. Rue de Solferino, Lille.

The fall of Lille

A soldier from Détachement Durand, the advance guard from the French 68ème Division d'Infanterie, shares a smoke with soldiers of Commando Zeeland, the Dutch force stationed in the province of Zeeland. Most probable date, May 10, 1940.

U 105 sunk 2 June, 1943 near Dakar by depth charges from a one-of-a-kind French Potez-CAMS 141 flying boat named "Antarés" of Flotille d'exploration 4E, French Naval Air Force. 53 dead (all hands lost).
Only one prototype was built and was sent to the Vichy forces in Morocco. It subsequently flew patrols with the Free French until late 1943 when it was retired thorugh lack of spares and later scrapped.
