Maj. Sicaud receiving the DSO

NCY-152

April, 8 1945: 700 Free French Special Air Service operators (Maj. Pierre Sicaud) from the 3rd and 4th SAS, are parachuted into eastern Holland in Operation Amherst, to clear the way for Canadian troops who are moving North. A series of running battles between the French, the Germans and Dutch Nazi collaborators left no civilian casualties but plenty of German and Dutch collaborators, dead. The French casualties were minimal.
