Coastal Battery

**

Finnish artillerymen fire from a 152-mm (152/45 C) coastal defense cannon on the island of Mäkiluoto, in the gulf of Finland, about 20 miles south-west of Helsinki, the capital. During World War II, 152/45 C was the Finnish standard coastal gun. During the Winter War, coastal batteries equipped with this type of gun defended against Soviet Navy attacks before the sea was frozen.
