Anti-Tank Gunner

Vilho Rättö (1913-2002) Knight of the Mannerheim Cross #4. He fought in Winter War as rifleman on Karelian Isthmus, and served as gunner and later leader of anti-tank squad in same area during Continuation War. He was awarded the Mannerheim Cross (2nd class) on August 3, 1941, for bravery and excellent resourcefulness in battle where he captured enemy anti-tank gun position with swift actions and aiming through the gun's barrel destroyed four tanks in row. He was first private and non officer to receive the award.
