Infantry Regiment 8 ("Ukko-regiment") of 11th Division ("Striking Wedge") advancing in Olonets Karelia. The regiment's casualties were 1358 men during the offense phase in 1941.

Future writer Väinö Linna stands in the second row, third from the right. He later made the unit famous by writing the novel "Tuntematon Sotilas" (Unknown Soldier) based on his own experiences. Two different movie versions by the same name was made based on the book; first one in 1955 and second in 1985. Today the Infantry Regiment 8 of Continuation War is often simply called as "the regiment of Väinö Linna" or "Unknown Soldier's regiment"
