Snipers in Stalingrad

Far left is Nikolai Illin(494 kills) and middle is Afanasi Gordienko(424 kills). Both were some of the best Soviet snipers in Stalingrad and were best friends. Illin was killed near Donbass on Aug.4.1943. Gordienko took Illins rifle - #KE-1729 and swore to avenge his friends death,he did for a short while but was killed near Kharkov in 1943. The rifle #KE-1729 can be seen today at the Moscow Armed Forces museum
