01Sep39 – Stratford, Ontario – This is the day Germany invaded Poland. The photo, taken at the Perth Regiment Armouries on Friday night, shows civilians and members of the Perth Regiment (M.G.) presenting their names to an officer and announcing their willingness to serve. Their names were recorded, although it was pointed out that there was nothing binding in the volunteering until a later date when medical examinations would be conducted. Canada declared war on September 10.
