Pierre Berton circa 1943.  Berton was the author of some thirty books.  One of them, an autobiography called "Starting Out 1920-1947" describes details of his stay at Camp Vernon, in Vernon, British Columbia.  Berton was never far from a typewriter, his already weighty army kit was further encumbered by an eight pound portable typewriter.
