In the above photo, men of the Readiness Flight race to their Hurricanes.  No. 1 Fighter Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air-force to which they belong, arrived in Britain in June, 1940, and played a prominent part in the defence of London during the  Battle of Britain when the Luftwaffe was so signally defeated.  This group of Canadians accounted for more than 70 enemy aircraft, bringing down 47 in four days.
