Left: Rare image of the first assault wave, the front of the landing craft jus open to reveal the distant beach with obstacles and buildings in the background.
Right: Stepping out into intense crossfire, the Canadian infantry faced death with bravery, though many never made it more than a few steps ashore.  This is part of 16mm footage taken from the back of the landing craft by a Canadian military photographer.  This is the only moving picture images shot of the first wave landings of any allied beach.  Every other piece of footage is second wave and often taken from the beach.
