A SMILE FROM THE DEAD

Gerry Sellars

Canadian Sergeant Rosaire Gagnon of Canada's Chaudiere Regiment smiles into the camera with a very happy German POW. This picture was taken on D-Day, saddly Rosaire would only be alive for 8 more days. Rosaire was killed in action 8 days later on June 13. Rosaire was the son of Mr. & Mrs. L Gagnon and was from the small town of Causapscal in Quebec, Canada. whatever happened to the German in this picture we will never know but a large number of German POW's immigrated to Canada after the war and led very successful lives....I guess that is what is called grim irony!
