The name is Anders Lassen, a badass Danish native who joined the British Army in the beginning of WW2. Andy was part of an elite group; the No.62 Commandos aka Small Scale Raiding Force (SSRF) The SSRF was Churchill’s own secret band of unconventional warriors, operating under the supervision of SOE. Their mission was to carry out ‘a butcher-and-bolt reign of terror’ behind enemy lines. Andy Lassen was known as the “Robin Hood Commando”, due to the fact that he carried a bow and arrow because he just had a thing about killing Jerry quietly and efficiently. Andy and his team conducted secret raids, often outnumbered and outgunned, in places like Africa, Norway, Italy, Greece, Crete and more Andy hated paperwork and his after action reports consisted of no more than five words: “Landed. Killed Germans. Fucked off.” He and his team stole 3 enemy ships like it was no big deal. During an operation in Italy, April 9 1945 (a month before the war ended) Andy posthumously received the Victoria Cross for single-handedly taking out three enemy positions before being mortally wounded. He is the only non common wealth soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross during ww2, on top of his to his three Military Crosses. - His men adored him because he was fearless, led from the front and never gave an order he wouldn’t carry out himself. taken from fb/Epic War History
