A column of British A15 Crusader Mark I tanks. The Crusader I was the last British tank to have a separate sub-turret for the 7.92mm BESA machine gun. The theory was that this would be more versatile than a fixed mounting as it could engage targets even if the tank was pointing in a different direction. In practice it wasn’t worth the trouble and ventilation for the gunner was poor. It was dropped from the Crusader II, and many crews removed it from their Mark I's. taken from fb/The Tank museum
