Men of the Devonshire Regiment sign their autographs on Japanese flags captured at Nippon Ridge during the Battle of Imphal-Kohima, March - July 1944.   The summit of Nippon Ridge, a hill of strategic importance overlooking the Tamu Road, was captured by men of the Devonshire Regiment. The battle resulted from a Japanese Operation 'U-GO' designed to drive the British and Commonwealth troops back into India.
