British Glider Infantrymen of  ’D’ Company, 2nd Airborne Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, attached to the 6th Airborne Division, pose with a young  French woman atop a captured German motorcycle during Operation Deadstick. Operation Deadstick was the codename for an airborne operation by the British Army that took place on 6 June 1944 as part of the Normandy Landings.

They came, saw, conquered...

British soldier repairs a flat tire on his bicycle, while his trusty Lee Enfield is close at hand.  Other countries used bicycles too. Germany, Italy, Japan, the French Resistance, and Chinese partisans used them.  The American 101st  Airborne requisitioned civilian cargo tricycles to transport airdropped equipment during Operation Market Garden.
