"Sharpshooters".......the 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry. The two units had been merged in 1944 due to losses sustained during the Normandy campaign. Both units, prior to the merger, had seen action in North Africa, Italy and Normandy. Following DDay, Britain was suffering understandable manpower shortages, with her Army now engaged on 3 fronts. The 4 CLY had suffered heavy losses during the action at Villers-Bocage; in spite of which they had still helped to push back the 501st Heavy Panzer Battalion whilst inflicting heavy losses. The two units were merged and renamed on August 1st, 1944 at Carpiquet in the Calvados region, and saw action in France, Holland, and on into Germany.
