Members of the Royal Irish Fusiliers, British Expeditionary Force, help a French farmer by drawing his plough with their Universal Carrier, Spring, 1940. French agriculture - indeed, European agriculture in general - was still hugely dependent on horse power to perform such operations as ploughing in 1940. Even before the arrival of the Germans (which made matters a lot worse) the requirements of the French Army for draught horses was denuding farms of their equine assets. I am sure that the farmer was very grateful for the assistance of RIF ... Best regards, JR.
