In another image, the air intake for the Allison is visible so this aircraft is a Mustang I or IA or II.  (Equivalent to XP-51, P-51 and P-51A) The location is possibly somewhere on the Continent.

In UK/Europe all Mustang III's were retrofitted with the sliding Malcolm hood but in Italy they soldiered on with the original folding design.
