Eric Stanley "Sawn Off" Lock, DSO, DFC and Bar, of 41 and 611 Squadrons, RAF Fighter Command. This photo was taken some time between 14 July and 3 August, 1941; on the former date, Lock was credited with his 26th kill. His Battle of Britain total - 16.5 - was credited as the highest score by any British-born pilot in the Battle. On 3 August, 1941, Lock was on a cross-channel sweep when he broke formation to attack German ground targets. He was never seen again, and the wreck of his Spitfire was never found. Stanley Lock remains missing in action, presumed dead. Best regards, JR.
