Post-Battle of Britain RAF Fighter Command ace James "Johnnie" Johnson and his friend, Sally, relax on the wing of his Spitfire, Normandy, Autumn 1944. Johnson was credited with 34 kills, including partial credits but excluding "damaged" claims, between 1941 and 1944. He ended the war as a Wing Commander, and continued in the RAF, serving in the Korean War and going on to further command duties. He retired in 1966 (as Air Vice-Marshal) and died of natural causes in 2001, aged 85. Best regards, JR.
