On the morning of 4 March 1943 flying Officer Kujundzic and crew boarded a Lancaster W4333 PM-B for a day time training flight from Elsham Wolds. During this routine flight somewhere over Cambridgeshire one of the Lancasters engines burst into flames. Neb would have known that the plane was destined to crash and gave the order for his crew to bale out. As his crew parachuted to safety 24 year old Neb stayed at the controls and at 4pm the plane came down in an orchard just beyond the village of Yaxley, 4 miles south of Peterborough. Neb did not survive the crash....(my paint of black & white photo left)...
