Up the Khyber.

Column of Vickers Crossley "Indian Pattern" armoured cars in Northern India. This 'photo is probably from the 1937-'39 period - the vehicles appear to be on their original Crossley chassis. Note the solid rubber tyres typically fitted to this chassis arrangement, which also featured very firm susupension. These features must have helped restrict damage to the vehicles on the rough roads and tracks of the North West Frontier; however, for crew, the ride must have been pretty uncomfortable. Vickers Crossley armoured cars (renovated, with Chrysler truck chassis) remained in service as long as did British India, and found some later use in Indian and Pakistani service. Best regards, JR.
