Spitfire at Grottaglie

Imperial War Museum

A Supermarine Spitfire HF Mark VIII of No. 92 Squadron RAF, at Grottaglie, Puglia, Italy, September 1943, is refuelled from a Bedford QL fuel tender. The large destroyed hangar on the right was built in 1916 for airship of Italian Navy. Still today at Grottaglie Airport, near Taranto, the Italian Navy has his Naval Air Station today with Harrier AV-8B of aircraft carriers “Giuseppe Garibaldi” and “Conte di Cavour”, based at Taranto, and tomorrow with F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
