Wing Commander Guy Gibson(1918-1944)

After the famous Dambusters raid Guy Gibson (DSO,DFC and bar ,Victoria Cross)could have gotten any safe job on the ground he wanted but instead chose for active combat duties. On sep 19th 1944 Gibson led a massive force as Master Bomber in a Mosquito on a raid to bomb railways and industrial targets at Monchengladbach and Rheydt.Mystery and controversy surround his death ever since.He orchestrated the attacks and then ordered the bombers home.His Mosquity was seen plunging into the ground at Steenbergen in Holland.Part of his remains were later found.What caused his crash has never been discovered.Harris later said in his memoirs that he had been wrong to let Gibson back on operations.Whatever happened,Britain had lost one of its greatest heroes.Greetz,Brummbar
