The 3.7-Inch QF AA was Britain's primary heavy anti-aircraft gun during World War II, the equivalent of the German 88 mm FlaK with a slightly larger calibre of 94 mm. It remained in use after the war until AA guns were replaced by guided missiles in the late 1950s.

Violette Szabo, operative of the British SOE, unluckily captured in the Limousin by 2 SS Panzerdivision "Das Reich" in the course of its chaotic march to Normandy, June 1944 - at a road-block set up as part of the effort to recover Sturmbannfuhrer Helmut Kampfe (whose capture by the Resistance led to the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre).  Handed over to the Gestapo for "interrogation".  Subsequently transferred to Ravensbruck - the "womens' concentration camp" - where she was executed sometime in February 1945.  She was 23 years' old.  Posthumous honours - George Cross (UK); Croix de Guerre (France); Médaille de la Résistance (France); OBE (UK); Roll of Honour of the SOE (UK/France).  Best regards, JR.
