Dunkerque beach I

The first British officer to complete a successful escape from Colditz.  Later, as senior Conservative politician, murdered by Irish Republicans in 1979.  Recent discussion on German uniform colours put me in mind of one of Neave's earlier, unsuccessful attempts to excape Colditz.  He had been supplied with a fake Heer uniform and, on one account, had marched all the way to the outer gates of the castle before someone noticed that his uniform showed up as "Order Police Green" under the Colditz floodlights, rather exploding his Heer credentials.  Neave had not noticed himself - he was colour-blind !  Best regards, JR
