&quot;The worst spot in Normandy&quot; it was  called by the troops involved in the battle. Both sides suffered heavy losses, e.g. the &quot;5th Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry&quot; lost about 30 vehicles within the paddock area against heavy SS Tank Battalion 102. July, 1944.
