According the official caption of this AWM’s photo, the latter show «Squadron Leader Judge, RAF (an Australian serving with the RAF) and Peter Jeffreys of No 3 Squadron, RAAF take off in a Miles Magister trainer aircraft for a reconnaissance over Italian lines». Since only a Miles M.14 Magister, a British tandem two-seater light trainer aircraft produced starting from 1937, would be in service with the Royal Australian Air Force, the aircraft of this photo is likely one many airplanes dispatched by RAF in Mediterranean Theatre for non-operational duties. Rayak air base, Lebanon, after the conquest by the British troops and the end of the campaign against the Levant’s Vichy forces, July 1941: Jim Kinnear, of the No 3 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force standing in front to one of the French Vichy Air Force’s Dewoitine D.520 fighters destroyed on the ground by the earlier strafing attacks on June 1941 accomplished by the Curtiss Tomahawks of the same 3 Squadron flying from their temporary airfield at Jenin, Palestine, where was redeployed from Egypt.
