Medal of the German Order, First Class (or "in Gold"). This high decoration, awarded for exceptional service to the National Socialist party and State, was only awarded eleven times (and only in First Class) between 1942 and 1945. The Order was in Hitler's personal gift. As this image indicates, the German Order medal was worn from the throat. Mind you, not many (perhaps any) got the opportunity to do so. Seven of the eleven awards were posthumous, and two further recipients were killed shortly after receiving the award, in circumstances unlikely to have allowed them to receive the medal. Best regards, JR.
