Imagined impression of the Allied 1,000 bomber raid on Cologne, 30/31 May, 1942.  This was an official oil-on-board painting by British war artist W. Krogman.  The scale of destruction seems accurate - indeed, perhaps slightly understated; other aspects of the image seem to owe more to propaganda requirements than objective reality.  The overall effect is curiously "Smagonesque".  Best regards, JR.
