Official poster promoting the Winter Olympics at Garmische-Partenkirchen, Bavaria. Again, as with the official emblem, no specific reference to Naziism - although the style is consistent with the favoured National Socialist version of neo-classicism. In reality, the Nazis did their level best to make use of the event for propaganda purposes, promoting the image of the Nazi regime and of the Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. In sporting terms, the event was pretty successful for Germany. They came second in the medals table, behind Norway, taking 3 Gold and 3 Silver medals. One ominous development - no doubt under German influence, one of the demonstration sports introduced was "Military Patrol". Best regards, JR.
