This is Oskar, Ship's Cat on the "Bismarck", who survived that sinking to develop his career as a SC on board two Britsih Royal Navy ships - both of which were, in their turn, sunk. Not "Sam" however; he survived all three sinkings, and went on to a comfortable retirement, ultimately, in an old sailors' home in Belfast, Northern Ireland. There are very few decent images of this cat available. This is from a painting by Georgina Shaw-Baker, preserved in the UK National Maritime Museum, Grenwich. Best regards, JR.
