Most of us are used to seeing history through the prism of the western media, especially the American and British media. That is why it is important that we get perspectives from other sources too. Here is history as seen by the intensely passionate German painter HERBERT SMAGON. 

Some of the paintings show the plight of Germans in the dying months of World War Two. Some of the paintings are too graphic to be reproduced here (God Google would frown!) but the ones that are shown here bring out the depth of feelings of the painter.
