Image for classic Wajda film of a unit of the Polish Underground Army during the Warsaw uprising - "Kanal". The name refers to the sewers running beneath Warsaw to which the members of the army retreated, as the uprising collapsed. Anyone wanting a gripping, tragic, moving glimpse of what the uprising must have been like should watch this film. On another point, note the partial figure of the German soldier in the background. The recent post of the execution of a female Soviet soldier, showing the German executioner, caused me to remember this German soldier from "Kanal". I remember they resemble each other. I highly recommend this film to anyone seriously interested in WW2 history.
