Cover of the Russian edition of Signal (a separate edition, with Russian-targeted content) from May 1944, showing Von Pannwitz wearing the Knight's Cross with Oakleaves over Heer Cossack uniform. Von Pannwitz was in fact a Prussian officer, but one who had great affinity for the Cossacks whom he led in German service. Having surrendered to the British, he submitted himself to being handed over to the Soviets in 1945, along with his troops (who were not afforded the choice). Von Pannwitz was executed in Moscow, 1947. The original of this 'photo appears to have been in monocrome. Colourisation appears to be contemporary, so as to make it suitable for use as a Signal cover (colour was preferred for Signal covers).
