My father Jim, now deceased typified the old expression "once a Marine, always a marine".  Dad was a Canadian living in Sheffield when the war broke out and joined the British Royal Marines at age 17.  He finished training at Stonehouse Barracks in Plymouth at age 18.  He saw the world serving in Italy, and then the Pacific.  He served in Burma with the Marines as well as various other areas.  He suffered the rest of his life from various injuries suffered during the war as well as suffering from the effects of Malaria.

Lt Col  Christensen as a Major in the 222nd  FA  Reg  40th Div before US Army reorganized Feb 1942.  He served overseas  as Bn Commander 497th  Port Bn  Africa and India.
