A column of U.S. M4A1 and M4A2 Sherman medium tanks of the 752nd separate tank battalion on the move in the Italian coastal city of Livorno, west of Florence. Separate tank battalions were military formations used by the United States Army during World War II, especially in the European Theater of Operations. These battalions were temporarily attached to infantry, armored, or airborne divisions according to need. They were also known as general headquarters tank battalions.
